Positive Pets Covid-19

The first time in the United States, two pet cats from New York tested positive for Covid-19, the Department of Agriculture and CDC announced.

Both of these cats show mild symptoms and are expected to be fine. Positive corona virus does not mean they will have the same disease as humans, or even transmit it.

Plus, tests for animals are not the same as humans. That is, by the way veterinarians take samples from the two cats tested in a private lab, then the results are confirmed at the national animal laboratory.

The owners of both cats take him to the vet because they show symptoms of respiratory infection. One of the owners was also tested positive for corona virus.

Several other cats that tested positive for the virus are in Belgium and also a tiger in a zoo in the Bronx.

The New York Times reported, in an experiment in China, cats were known to be susceptible to corona virus infection and showed mild symptoms.

The researchers said that the experiment showed that transmission could occur between cats, but that this happened only within the scope of the laboratory.

"It is very difficult to do regular nasal washing in semi-adult cats because they are quite aggressive," the researchers wrote.

The Department of Agriculture and CDC highlight the fact there is no evidence that pets can spread the virus in the United States. Other experts agree that people don't need to start suspecting their pets, the opposite is true.

According to Karen Terio, Head of the Zoologist Pathology Program at the University of Illinois, where the Bronx zoo sample was tested, noted that hundreds of thousands of people have tested positive in the United States, not two cats.

He said that a number of tests and initial experiments did show that cats were quite susceptible to the virus, and if this was a serious problem for cats, we would have seen more numbers.

Infections also occur not from cats to humans, but from humans to cats. Fortunately, these cats have a milder disease condition, continued Dr. Terio.

Therefore, for the time being the CDC recommends citizens of the United States to keep their pets indoors to avoid contacting animals or other people.

And for people who are sick, stay away from pets just like keeping a distance from other humans.

Meanwhile, other pets such as dogs, are not quite susceptible to infection with this virus, according to the same research.
